The Art of New Business is the first network in the UK exclusively for people who are involved in bringing new business in for their organisations. Our aims are to understand the challenges that business developers in our industry face and provide a support network for them where they can get together and share frustrations and learnings. We also want to provide a forum where clients, agencies and new business thought leaders can have an open and honest debate about the state of agency business development and where we can share insights and best practice with our audience.
New business is an agency’s lifeblood, so why do so many agencies ignore the very advice they would give to their own clients and resort to ineffective, intrusive and outdated methods? As Jon White, formerly Marketing Director, Kimberly-Clark Europe told us recently:
“I’ll be honest, I’m really concerned about a lot of the approaches I get right now, most of them are cold calls, most of them are selling their own wares rather than really telling me what they can do for my business…”
Research we carried out recently suggested that over 60% of clients were bombarded so frequently by agencies that it was actually having a detrimental effect on their daily work; in our view, this is an unacceptable situation that threatens to damage our industry. We believe that rather than selling themselves agencies should be attracting clients from a position of focused expertise and thought leadership. We want to motivate people to revolutionise the way that they go about winning new business for their agencies and help catalyse a much overdue change…
